Strong chemical smell from new sofa

Hello All,

Just bought a second sofa for our living room and it has a heavy chemical smell. We didn't have this problem with a previous sofa from the same (popular) furniture store, and I wonder if the velvety fabric is making the smell worse. I'v moved it to the spare room for the moment, and given that I am super sensitive to smells, I am considering returning it. I'm guessing the smell is from the flame retardants... Are there any companies that sell sofa without flame retardants? Or is a second hand sofa the best bet?

I bought from a popular sofa company aswell. The smell really put me off.. I kept the windows open as much as I could to air the room the sofa were in. It took probably 6-8 weeks before the smell went away. 😷
