if you were to put a wood or laminate floor down in your lounge would you then be looking for furniture in the same type of wood ?

i.e an oak floor and then oak furniture aswell ?

help please getting all confused !

I, personally, would do matching but that's me. I think as long as you don't have lots of different woods, it doesn't matter too much.

No I wouldn't it can end up looking like a ski chalet.

No. I would not try to make everything match but that's b/c my style is mixing. Also, matching well, nevermind perfectly, is much harder than contrasting or 'toning'. So with light oak floors, I'd be looking for rugs in case it shows dirt easily and medium furniture.

We have med-dark carpet (used to have nice oriental rugs before DCs) + dark paneled walls + dramatic print curtains, a light coloured sofa and a dark one.

when you say medium furniture tarheelbaby do you mean an oak floor with say , darker oak furniture ?

I wouldn't put wood on wood if they were similar or matching, it would look strange. I would break up the wood with a rug. For example, a rug under another type of wood dining table and then it matters a lot less.
