Mid Century Modern sofa on carpet?

We're just about to move house and plan to replace our sofa. I like the look of the mid century modern type ones with wooden legs at an angle but my instinct is saying one would look wrong on carpet. Would it look better on wooden floor?
I'm interested to hear what people think. In all the pictures I've seen they're on a wooden floor.

Mines on a plain carpet and it looks fine. The originals were on carpet in the 50s and 60s because new build houses of that era had concrete floors covered in Marley tiles.

Unless, of course, they were more expensive new builds and had parquet floors.

Mines on carpet too.

I think a lot of people might have had thick pile carpets in the 50's and 60's 😆

You're right actually. As I was thinking about it I remembered my gran's turquoise swirled carpet underneath hers. I just haven't seen any recent photos of one on carpet.
