New kitchen ideas

I'm about to have a new kitchen fitted. I live in a modern semi but love the country shabby chic look. My husband and I cannot agree on kitchen as he loves ultra modern. I tried changing our sitting room last year to a modern look but hated it and we are now back to a shabby chic. We have tried to compromise on kitchen but he insists on American fridge freezer and high gloss units. I'm trying to work out how I can make it work for me too. I've chosen howdens burford high gloss units with antique cup handles but I'm not sure they will look right together. I would prefer non gloss but OH won't have it. I wouldn't have the American fridge freezer either but have to find a compromise. Is there any way I can make high gloss units work with my love of shabby chic?

Personally, I'd match the kitchen to the house age, as a decider, if there was a conflict of styles within a couple . Makes sense to have a modern kitchen in a modern house . But if you don't like gloss maybe ask to compromise with a matt finish instead - if you went for matt white you could have fun with colours on the walls as often as you like as it's relatively cheap and easy to change the wall colour - so that might help with your design style release ?! So you could still have fun with it ?!
