Flooring that doesn't show the dirt

I'm replacing the laminate floor in our kitchen. It has not lasted well and is also constantly dirty looking because I foolishly chose a light colour. We're now considering tiling it or putting karndean down. Either way I want a floor that doesn't show the dirt too much. Any recommendations as to how I achieve this? Is it possible?

The mottled pattern is good for hiding dirt!

We have dark grey porcelain tiles. They show up all the surprisingly large number of white bits that hang around our home. And the slightest splash of water dries whitish on it (hard water area). No suggestions but I went for dark to try to not show up the dirt and it's still obvious.

I think the lighter the floor the better, we have a dark floor and it's the bane of my life. I'm constantly sweeping/mopping/picking bits up it drives me insane.

So lighter floor or lower your standards

I disagree - you need a mid colour to hide dust and dirt. Something which isn't all one colour will be better than a solid colour too.

So mottled colour not too dark or too light! I've been looking at porcelain slate tiles which I think would work naturally DH doesn't like them!

I have low standards already I just want a floor that camouflages my low standards.

Hasn't considered water splashes changing the colour so will check that too.

I've got porcelain wood effect tiles in my kitchen and they are pretty good at hiding dirt. They sound hideous and I wasn't keen on 'fake' wood but had to get them to fit the underfloor heating in without raising the floor level. I'm actually really pleased we got them now as they are indestructible and look good too.
I have quite dark grey tiles in a bathroom and they are very good at hiding hair, dust, fluff (slattern).

I have African Slate in my kitchen diner, it is wonderful for disguising dirt.

You don't notice it needs mopping until you look at tha soles on the toddlers white socks!

Noooo, we have porcelain slate tiles in our utility room, they show every speck of dust. Thank god we didn't put them in the kitchen. We have wood effect tiles on the bathroom floor, they're very forgiving. Think these are ours - they're nicer than in the picture (and, er, we don't have them up the walls!)

I have children who are constantly coming home with dirty shoes and a dog that likes to play outside, this floor never shows me any visible dirt since it's so dark and kind of has those dark sport already.
Really recommended!!

Terracotta colour lino in a fake tiles pattern, and with some grey mottling. Absolutely brilliant for hiding dirt. I can't actually remember the last time I washed the floor - it was at some point last year.

Slate effect karndean. Many kids and only mop once a week ( hangs head in shame!!)

I have karndean hickory peppercorn, it looks beautiful but shows up absolutely everything and drives me crazy, if I were to do it all again I would go for an oak colour which wouldn’t show every speck of dust...anyone else make the same mistake I made...? Do not under any circumstances get a textured light coloured tile. The only way to clean it is with a scrubbing brush

I find terracotta shows the least dirt

We've got a dark karndean and it's a complete nightmare for showing up dirt. Just the opposite way round! I think a medium oak floor is the best way to go!!

Thinking of replacing one room only of my Karndean Hickory Peppercorn, it’s very dark, looks lovely at dusk but during daytime, shows up dirt, dust and hair...Bain if my life, I spend each day quickly hoovering but find this ridiculous....I’m keeping it Karndean as will be easier as the rest of the rooms are the dark colour but thinking of replacing slowly...can someone who knows or has the wood effect Karndean flooring recommend a wood effect colour to me that I won’t need to hoover constantly and I can leave for a week.....please😫😫😫😫😫😫😫😫😫

Karndean, one of the medium wood effects, brilliant at hiding the dirt.
I can't remember exactly which one though.

There’s a definite theme here is there!! We had a proper oak floor in our old Georgian kitchen and hid a multitude of sins. Had a very pale tile in a rental which needed cleaning every 2 minutes and have now inherited a black skate kitchen floor, which I hate and still looks filthy after a mop. I’d absolutely do a fake/real wood - looks cosier too!

I just renovated my hallway and kitchen and took out teracotta coloured tiles that I hated and put down an natural oak flooring.I just cannot believe how much less dirt shows on it .I was usually sweeping or vacuuming our other floor constantly but the oak floor just looks fine.Have only had to clean it in order to treat it with a special soap recommended by the firm that put it in .I just love it!

Thank you everyone, it looks like an oak coloured flooring Karndean may have been better, a very expensive mistake but may have to put up with it for some time until I can afford to replace...any other advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your responses, happy Christmas everyone....
