Painting a solid wood in-frame kitchen

Kitchen is a traditional solid wood in-frame and currently untreated (or may have been many moons ago - not painted or varnished though)

Will I regret painting it?
Any pros/cons to doing it?

We did ours as the only thing I didn't like about the existing kitchen was the doors and work tops, the layout and carcasses were fine. By painting you can get the exact colour you want but make sure you test the colour in different lights/times of day and whether it looks good for top cupboards and bottom cupboards. I have seen them painted different colours/shades and looks nice but not for me.

Also we liked the grain you could see when hand painted rather than factory sprayed as you'd get with a new "coloured" kitchen.

Cost us a few 1000 rather than at least 30k for a new kitchen (it's a big kitchen!)
