What can I keep in a GIANT jar?

I bought a beautiful antique jar from eBay thinking I could put cotton pads in it and it's way too big for that (like 50cm tall)

I still want to put something in it. It's for the bathroom and quite decorative.

Any ideas ?

Shells? Pretty stones? Sea glass?

Pine cones?

Apples? Not in the bathroom obviously

Is it a glass jar? Could you make it into a terrarium?

AndShesGone · 02/03/2017 13:31

It's a glass jar. It's so big it would take a whole beach of shells. It has a giant stopper on the top which I wouldn't want to lose so I can't grow plants in it.

I can fit loo rolls through the top but I don't really want to keep loo rolls in it as it's going next to the sink rather than on the floor.

It's got pretty gilding and hand painted flowers on it or I would relocate it to a different room. The bathroom is huge and has Victorian bath/high level loo so it can definitely take the jar. 10 foot ceilings.

Lush bath bombs Smile

If I win the lottery then yeah, lush bath bombs is the way to go Grin I reckon I could fit 50 in there

Fairy lights?

AndShesGone · 02/03/2017 13:55

I would genuinely need a thousand of those marble sized bath bombs to make it look good.

Fairy lights would look lovely but I'd need to use battery powered ones as there's no plug socket in the bathroom, take the lid off and turn them on to look good. I think if I left them on all the time the batteries would wear out really quickly.

I'm going to take a photo of it and show you

Fairy lights (battery operated) look amazing in cases or glass jars. X

PhilODox · 02/03/2017 13:59

Was going to suggest battery operated fairy lights, or a mossy fairy garden/ air plant garden. Don't you go on Pinterest?Grin

Is slightly depends on your hoarding/trolley theft tendencies but how about testers/travel size bottles of stuff for people to help themselves to??

Kiwi32 · 02/03/2017 14:01

Ooh fairy lights is better!

Maudlinmaud · 02/03/2017 14:04

I have a jar like that in my bathroom, I keep bathsalts in it and I bought a wooden scoop to sit on top. You can buy radox salts really cheap.

I would put fairy lights into it. You could put shells in with them too. Would look lovely in the bathroom.

beaveringaway · 02/03/2017 14:53

I have a cork jar that I've saved up lots of prosecco and champagne corks and write on the bottom the date and occasion. I love looking through them all every now and again. You could start saving them up and its a good excuse to open a bottle!

kshaw · 02/03/2017 15:40

Champagne (or prosecco!) corks

steppingout · 02/03/2017 15:42

Some plants would be ok in a sealed terrarium? Beautiful jar!

plimsolls · 02/03/2017 15:48

M&s do battery operated LED fairy lights (the tiny sort on a thin wire that you can mound into shapes) which have a self timer so they come on at the same time every day and turn off 8 hours later so you could just put them in and forget about them. I bought some at Christmas and they were £9.

Having said that, I think lights look better in plain jars but maybe it'll depend on the style of your bathroom.

Apfelbunny · 02/03/2017 15:51

Fairy lights and various sizes pom poms. Or stick a twiggy stick in the bottom with some stones and moss and put lights on the tree like a mini fairy forest home thingy.

Apfelbunny · 02/03/2017 15:55

Just seen the picture (slow internet) - that jar needs just lights. Nothing else.

Giant gall stones?!
