What is this long bit of furniture?

A neighbour split from his wife and left us some furniture to store that later he said he had no room for. I've no probs with that, some of it is quite nice but I'd assumed this furniture was a nice solid table.

I finally got it out and it isn't a table - just a surface. Is it some sort of work surface? Slots pull out, as shown on the second pic, but I'm really not sure how this will fit about the place, or how to sell it to anyone else...

Does anyone know?

What does the other side look like? I'm wondering if it's a table top. You mentioned he split from his wife; has he taken half of something?

Should have an extension panel with it that lodges under the main panel and on top of the slats I think

It looks like a table top to me too. The bits that slide out will fit into extra 'leaves' to extend it. And it obviously should have a leg at each corner!

Table top

Definitely a table with no legs.
You could get some legs from a local joiners/cabinet makers and fix them on.
Pain then in f&b downpipe and voila instant shabby chic :o

Many thanks! I suppose I will have a scout about for the legs...
