How to get Gloss out of carpet?

Dh was re glossing in ds's room, and he knocked the tin of gloss over the dark blue coloured nylon carpet (it's not our house so we can't really change the carpet). Any ideas how he can get it out?
He used sugar soap and boiling water, which looked to me like he was making it worse. So I suggested white spirit, which seemed to help a lot more.
Anything else we can try? It's currently being left to dry? And the room stinks of gloss paint and white spirit as well. (Ds is not home obviously, he's staying with his grandparents so the painting could be done)

Get as much off the floor with kitchen towels until it's dry. Then white spirit. Repeat for 5 hours . Dry/white spirit/dry

I kicked a tin down the stairs, that was fun. I used 20 kitchen rolls.

White spirit - only works while the paint is dry.
