How to make kitchen cupboards less hideous?

I've recently moved in to a lovely new build HA house. The only problem is the kitchen cupboards. They are hideous. I have no idea what they are made of or how I can make them look nicer, I'm not sure if they can be painted. Ripping them out and replacing them is not an option. I've attached a picture. Any ideas what I could do with them.

The picture isn't showing the colour of them properly. They are a greenish blue, worktops are beach and kitchen tiles are a pale green colour.

Can you add another photo OP? One showing as much of the kitchen as you can? It's almost impossible to tell what it's like from that shot.

You could paint them. Use a melamine primer first. And if you can find an oil based paint (hard to get these days) you will get more durability. I inherited an orange pine kitchen once & painted it. I also painted the beige tiles with white tile paint. Looked great. New handles too.

You can definitely paint them. I painted my melamine kitchen cupboards a few years back, and it has worked really well. Just use the right primer first. I used a melamine primer followed by a couple of coats of kitchen paint and it has been very durable. I also painted all the kitchen tiles and replaced handles (separated from Decorhate at birth). It has transformed a hideously ugly kitchen into something that is, well, unremarkable.

Hmm - I see what you mean OP. Painting them will take a lot of time and effort and of course then there is the cost of the materials to do it. What about replacing the doors and storing the original ones in the loft? If you can find out where the units are from, it should be really easy. Cream would look nice.
