Pure white kitchen worktop - alternatives to Corian?

I love the look of Corian but won't be able to afford it in our new kitchen. Does anyone have experience of the alternatives, e.g. silestone? I'm just interested in something white, with no pattern, and not shiny. Matt and smooth....

We've got white quartz (Samsung radianz) which is amazing. Doesn't stain, mark, chip and is so easy to clean. We looked at loads of samples of brilliant whites and there's very little difference between the name brands like Silestone and the (much) cheaper less marketed alternatives. DH is an architect so used to specifying high end stuff and even he was surprised there was no real difference. We got a really good price by ringing round lots of suppliers and seeing what they could do for us.

We're having Mistral fitted to our island. It's made by Karonia - worth a look on their website. If you can find a trade worktop place near you, worth going for a look as they'll have lots of different things.

Oh and the Mistral shaped and fitted is half the price we were quoted for Corian.

we've got white corian and it was cheaper than white silestone which was my first choice.
If you go for a cheaper version get samples to test for staining /scratches.

Thanks all, this will help my research.

(Non thread related - Shitterton is just down the road from me !! Did you know it actually is a place !! Nearly bought a cottage there about 15 years ago !! )

Hey oneplan, just saw your response now. We live near Shitterton, my DSs love the sign and my 8-year old pronounced himself mayor last time we went, thus the name Grin
