Old trunk

This old trunk is really precious to me although I know it's a bit tatty now. Does anyone have any idea where I'd even start to find someone who could refurbish it in some way?

I'd be happy for some quite significant changes and totally open to ideas.

Completely clueless where to start! Thanks.

give it a jolly good scrub and a nice layer of varnish? Embrace the retro vintage look?

Thanks for quick reply! Yes that would have been my first choice and oils definitely be the least amount of hassle but we are pushed for space and I am hoping to make it DD's toy box so need it to look a bit more 'finished' iykwim.
It can still be shabby but I need it to at least be safer. Don't think it's too clear in the pic but it's jaggy where the lock has come off.

Where in the country are you? People may be able to make recommendations!
