A good, hardwearing matt paint

Does such a thing exist?

Following on from a thread on Chat last week, I still think I decorated our house completely wrong, and now want to paint everywhere a nice, soft white. The problem is, I love the more chalky finish but would need the walls to be wipeable if they are going to be such a light colour.

Does anyone have a paint brand to recommend? And preferably on a budget?!

Would also like to hear recommendations for nice whites - have seen the other thread below about white paint, but I want ours to be the same colour for ceiling and skirtings too (although would use eggshell or similar for woodwork)

The b&q colours premium is apparently wipeable, hard wearing etc. The Matt is very chalky finished.

It goes on thick and dries quickly, and it does need 2 coats despite what they say, because it dries so quickly it sort of removes itself if you go back over an area. I know I'm not selling it here, but honestly I 've been very impressed with it. Cannot comment on its longevity though as I only did dd's room on Saturday, and ds's the week before.

thenew thank you, that actually sounds okay. We live in the kind of house that would need regular touch ups anyway, which is half the reason we think white is a good way to go - easy to buy a huge tin and have it in the shed.

I picked some lovely F&B colours and am constantly paranoid they will get ruined. I had some Dulux copies made of the same colours, but even with that I'm sceptical that it won't always be mixed the exact colour if we needed to touch up!

I've just had a look at that Premium one online and it says it's good for all surfaces too, which is great! And two for £28...

Yes it's on offer at the moment. My only criticism is the thickness of it really, and we used more than we expected because of that. They do some not-quite-whites as well if you don't want a pure white.

Compared with valspar which I splashed out for in the lounge and found it to be really patchy. They obviously have every colour possible on the valspar but I wasn't impressed with it.

Valspar premium is srubbable. Have 5 kids and have it in my hallway.... scrubs up well. Prob best paint but pricey at £45 5 litres....worth it tho and colour matched to farrow and ball paint chart

Dulux Trade Diamond Matt. Homebase do it in white. I get it tinted to a F&B colour in the Dulux decorator centre

This is probably a silly question, but do you need to be a trades person to be able to buy Dulux Trade? I always thought you had to show Builder ID or something to buy it?!

It was valspar premium o used. I haven't had to scrub it yet, i just found it not the best to actually paint with! It is nice to have the choice of so many colours though.

Has anyone painted their walls Brilliant White? DP has just said he could get a load of Brilliant White for free, which seems silly to turn down, but will it be too bright?
