Anyone good at sofa through doorway solving?

A friend has one of these which they've kindly offered me but obviously I have to pay a man and van which isn't cheap (still cheaper than me buying new sofa bed tho!)

My smallest doorway it must get through is 73cm

Do I have a hope in hell? There's no obvious way but maybe there's wriggle room?

Just can't afford to get stuck with a sofa in the doorway! Blush

First, do the feet come off?

I've moved several sofas back and forth through my doorways and the legs come off which makes them fit easily. They were Ikea sofas though.

The problem with sofa beds is that the bed mechanism makes the thing bloody heavy.
This limits its pivotability

What is the doorway like? If there is lots of space, you might be able to swivel the sofa through so that it's only the distance betweeen the bottom left corner and the front of the arm rest/seat that has to actually fit through the door.assuming the doorway is high enough for the full width of the sofa.

It is hard to tell without having the sofa there, which obviously you want to avoid if it won't definitely fit!

I've had to take the window out in the past and I've also had to take the front door off the hinges, and sort shimmy the sofa through the narrow hallway and into the living room.

I live up on the 5th floor - no chance of it coming through the window sadly and also fortunately!

No storage space either... It will literally be a very expensive cock up if there's no chance

He's not home yet - have asked him to measure the smallest door he's got it through as if it's been done once it can be done again... I was hoping the inner Ross pivot might do it but not sure if I'm being totally thick still holding out a hope...

Pay for an experienced furniture mover, that will be the difference between getting it in or not. It's a compact sofa, and not tall so should be fine. You can always remove the bed mechanism for easier moving around. We've got 2 mammoth sofas in our lounge (250cms long each and over 100cms deep). They came in through a standard doorway with the bun feet off and all the cushions etc. It's all just a case of getting the angle right and the PIVOT lol. You can always remove the door for easier angling.

Normally the back cushions are higher than the back of the sofa frame and if that's under 73 cm you are good. Best way is usually upright, and in such a way you can "turn" it through the door. And definitely unscrew the legs. If desperate the sofa bed mechanism will probably unscrew with half a dozen screws.

It should fit, if there is just one door to get through (no porch). As others have said, take it in vertically, and rotate the back into the room. One thing to watch out for is sofa beds have a nasty habit of opening up at the wrong moment, so tie some straps or rope around it to keep the mechanism closed. Remove any covers, if you can, they could get torn or mark the woodwork or walls.
To be honest, any decent man/women with a van should be able to cope with this if they have any furniture moving experience.

Definitely up on its end, and pivot it through the doorway. That'll go through easily! I bought a sofa once and by my calculations had a spare 1cm each side to get it through the doorway. I was right! Thank god...

Nope lots of doors to go through - there's the flat communal doors, lift, front door (which seems unlikely to come off by how it's bolted in, I know it must but the council did it) then a hallway that's quite long and the smallest door is the last hurdle - the entrance to the lounge!

I'm asking for the moon on a stick aren't I?

The bit that has to be narrow enough is the diagonal from the bottom corner to the nearest part of the arm/back. You could get your friend to measure that.

Honestly sofas are designed to go through a standard 29/30 inch door or nobody would buy them.

Iv measured assuming I have removed that door already, but there's an alcove behind it (an out one not inny) so doesn't make too much difference removing the door if it gets through the 73cm frame

I guess the guy will just dump it in the hall if hard and leave me to figure it but then I may be locked out or in on my own! Blush

There's no back seat cushions - the frame is the back iyswim

There's seat cushions only to remove and then bed mechanism though I don't think man and van will hang about for that

Any idea how much proper removal people cost? Imagine it's a lot more...
