I like the first one.

Monkeys for me!

I am not a fan of the black and white trend for kids rooms. Just way too clinical IMO. It looks lovely but not the way a child would appreciate.

RedYellowPinkandGreen · 27/11/2016 02:08

Love the monkeys. Not so keen on the others.

I hate cartoon murals sorry

cheekyfunkymonkey · 27/11/2016 07:45

I showed my Ds (2) and he pointed to 1 ( which surprised me I thought he'd go for 2)

SimonNeilshair · 27/11/2016 07:46

I like the first and last ones but they need an injection of colour.

RaeSkywalker · 27/11/2016 07:47

The first one is lovely.

First one is lovely.

Can I suggest Pinterest if you haven't already tried it for ideas it's amazing!

3kidsandus · 27/11/2016 08:30

Thanks all! So I've discounted the dark one! I just quite liked the idea of a chalkboard wall but you're right too clinical!

Have trawled through Pinterest but the pics are either too mature or too babyish (ie will grow out of it quickly!!)

The monkeys might be a compromise as they are just stickers! So can take off and repaint as he grows?

The first one, will last longer and I'm not a fan of bright bedrooms as think they should be relaxing as a calm place not giant bold pictures staring down.

RedYellowPinkandGreen · 27/11/2016 08:59

I like wall stickers for that reason.

I also love Ikea accessories - cloud wall lamp etc (Ikea have very cute kids lighting) - gets away from themed rooms.

Currently Peppa Pig wall stickers everywhere in toddler DS's room so not tasteful!

I used to think like Artandco that it should be fairly bland and restful but toddler never slept in his room so I tried to make it really appealing. He still doesn't sleep there. Hmm

BertieBotts · 29/11/2016 07:45

You could still do a chalkboard wall but add some colour elsewhere? It's the grey and white in contrast to the black I'm not a fan of.

Only problem with chalk, is I hope you don't have carpet. Because it looks awful when it gets trodden in.

Artandco · 29/11/2016 09:55

Instead of chalk ( messy and looks horrid when smeared), I recommend a magnetic board on wall. Can add large magnets when small, then letters and numbers and smaller ones as they grow. Easiest way is to frame a thin large baking tray. We did this with a large white French ornate frame and thin black tray. Looks great still 5 years on and kids still use. We use now for maths homework working out and add to get them to test weekly spellings with magnetic letters

BikeRunSki · 29/11/2016 16:51

I made a chalk board that hangs on the back of the door (so can be removed if wanted). Got a piece of wood about 3/4 of the size of the door. Painted it with chalk board paint. Add over the door hooks.

We've also got a steel splash back mounted on the wall as a magnetic board.

3kidsandus · 01/12/2016 18:37

Great ideas here!! Can I see pics of your magnet/chalk boards please? I think you're right re: carpet. That's talked me out of it quite quickly!!
