Help me fall in love with gloss kitchens - and choose a colour!

Starting the process of choosing a kitchen for our new build and am a bit underwhelmed by the kitchen choices. The cabinets are predominantly sleek gloss (though there's one shaker style in gloss) in various colours.

Do you love your gloss kitchen? What colour would you recommend? Currently swinging towards white or pale grey, but less sure about worktops with the pale grey.

All sources of inspiration welcome!

White walls, with bring coloured (jade / cerise pink / turquoise) accessories & wall art.

I don't have a gloss kitchen but if I had to have one, I'd go white gloss.

That's my worry about grey limefizz - I like the grey drquin posted, but I think our new kitchen will be too small to carry off grey. I'd like the same flooring throughout the whole ground floor and am thinking of a warm walnut colour so I think that would work better with white. Off to the showroom to study the options a bit more!

Not that I'm the official defender of grey gloss kitchens .....
But they're only as dark as you make them. Mine isn't big, quite literally the size of a single garage.
South facing, large window.
Base units only on three walls, and wall units only on one short wall.
So there's lots of light / white.

Conversely a neighbour has medium oak doors, black granite worktop, red walls and black "white goods" in the same size but different layout room.
Gorgeous kitchen but looks massively smaller than mine.

So it's the whole image you need to think about, not just one element!

I'm about to start on our new kitchen and so far I'm sold on cream high-gloss units with a dark wooden worktop and dark wooden floor. I can't decide on white or stainless steel appliances.

We have white gloss cabinets with white counter tops. The gloss cabinets are great and don't really show fingerprints and smudges etc. The white countertop is the bain of my life! Looks good when clean but you have to,wipe down after everything.

I would have thought a light taupey color instead of grey would stop the prison look and is warmer than pure white

I love my gloss kitchen! My main requirement was something that was easy to keep clean, and gloss has been. I didn't want any groves catching dust so all shaker styles were out.

We got a cream colour from Benchmarx. It's more white than cream. I'll take a photo later on once I've finished bath time shenanigans.

Drquin. Ours will be pretty dominated by cabinets, south-ish window but not very big. I really like the grey, but there'll not be much of anything else to balance it.

We're opting for white - now trying to decide between smooth or shaker. DH likes the shaker but I'm not so convinced in a gloss.

Photos should be great squiz. There's a taupey grey option ilikedogs but I think it will have a pinky tone in the wrong light which I really don't like.

I have white gloss units with a mid grey quartz work surface and oak flooring.
I love it, very modern and easy to keep clean. I nearly went for a mottled black quartz but pleased I went for grey as it's less harsh.

I've gone for white gloss with White worktops. Think it works really well!

Our kitchen is small and unexciting but you can see how the units look. If I did it again I might get handleless units and built in dishwasher.

Ooh, thanks both for pics. Great to see actual kitchens. Sqiz81 - are the walls between your base and wall units painted or splashback? I think we're going to go for a similar worktop, so now need to pick a glass splash back for behind cooker, but the rest will just be plain walls. I've always had tiles so this came as a surprise!

Just painted. We got the up stand things matching the worktop, then just paint. It was another decision based on easy to keep clean. I didn't want grout to scrub. We used the dulux kitchen paint in hot chocolate and its great.

Behind the hob we have an aubergine glass splashback which I love, it's one of my favourite colours....but now that it is in it looks too dark with a black hob I think, it would work better with a stainless steel hob.

Friends of ours did acrylic all the way round between worktop and top cupboards.it looks really good. They picked a mushroom colour. I always get kitchen envy at their house!

I'd go smooth & handleless. Worktop & splashback wise, I'd go white marble with grey veining. If you want something more cost effective & hardwearing from a stain point of view you could go with a composite in a Carrara pattern. They vary a lot in believability but some look really good. I used it in DD's bathroom (vanity, around the inset bath & on the window (and it is really good. Not sure which brand it was. Get samples.

Thanks everyone. That's really useful squiz81, I'm looking at my kitchen tiles grouting just now and dreading scrubbing it before the photographers come to take pics of our current house.

Maybe the idea of a fully tiled bathroom isn't so clever after all...!

We've got cream gloss and I love it! easy to keep clean and no grout to scrub either...
