Have loads of cracked tiles on large kitchen floor - cant afford to replace. where can I get appropriate large mats? Will not be an issue of getting wet as otherside of island - but still busy muddy traffic...would coir work?

Coir is fine for a door mat as long as you can take it up and shake it out. I'd go for something washable elsewhere in a kitchen - turtle mat type runners, etc.

Def dont want something that needs shaking out - as the rugs will be massive so maybe coir is not the right thing. Have seen those indoor out door mats - but they look like they would be hard to keep clean ie mop as grooves and bumps?

I don't know what you mean. The runners and mats I'm thinking of can go in the washing machine.
