Photo wall... will it date?

Hi. These photo gallery walls where there's 16 or so different sized frames all arranged together.
Are they a 'thing' at the moment or do you think they'll date?
Also all matching frames or a mix?
My furniture is oak, would all oak frames be too much?

I guess it's just another form of 'art' and I think art is a very personal choice - I like them but worry I DH won't get them lined up right!

I've bought a couple of picture shelves (I like the flexibility with the display options this way) from IKEA with the aim of doing something like this - but then there's the dusting!

Oh I really like that!! Do your shelves have a Lip?

They do ...and the are cheap too - mine are white

Grrr! Link fail - I bought the Mosslander - you can site them together if you need to go longer

Love those picture shelves! I tried to do the collage thing but my walls are brick and it's a pain the ass if you get a nail wrong by a few centimeters.

We have something almost identical to ChishandFips33 in our kitchen/diner. It's much admired (and much copied Grin).

Our shelves are from Ikea.

ZogsAnon · 30/10/2016 18:52

Those shelves are lovely, also love the rather random bird on the sofa!

HereIAm20 · 31/10/2016 20:11

They do those type of picture shelves in Homebase too ( black or white) for £9.99 if there is no IKEA nearby.

I have mix and match frames on my chimney breast wall, different sizes and colour s and even a clock. I love it and had it ages now they're everywhere, I think they look great I don't think they'll date as quick as some trends but what's the other option?
I do like the shelf idea but thought it might mean more cleaning Grin

I think if done well they can look really nice but too many just looks cluttered and having pictures for the sake of it if that makes sense.

Ive always liked the Dunphy stair collage from Modern family.

mymilkshakes I was similar in pitch perfect 2 and have since really wanted a photo wall although I'm probably not artistic enough to make it look good Grin

skyyequake · 01/11/2016 16:02

*saw not was

ChishandFips33 · 01/11/2016 19:17

Google is your friend then!
Photo wall or gallery wall templates brings up a wealth of options/ideas - some with sizes on too

They look fairly nice. But I couldn't stand the extra faffing around with dusting!

skyyequake · 02/11/2016 09:51

Ooh thanks ChishandFips! I'll have a google Grin

olderthanyouthink · 02/11/2016 09:59

Ikea sells templates that matches their frame sizes too. I suppose you blue tack the huge sheet to the wall then put screws/nails where it has marks then remove the sheet and put up frames

PotatoHolic · 02/11/2016 15:18

I think I've talked myself into the shelves now. Looking for oak ones though and they cost a fair bit more...

I have the oak ones from JL in the sitting room.

I realise I may have a lot of picture ledges...
