Repainting doors and skirting boards

I'm planning a quick lick of paint to update my bedroom... I'm shit at decorating so am literally just going over the old magnolia with white. Hopefully it will hide any missed spots or crap bits! But what do I do with skirting boards and the door? Can I just put new gloss straight over the top of the old gloss or do I need to prep it in any way first?

I would wash it down. That's about it.

Do they need doing? I hate glossing. I've done 5 rooms in my house and have just given them a good clean (if you're renting, someone on here said she, as a landlord, hates it that tenants do this ) If you are painting them you just need to give them a light sanding to give a "key" something for the new paint to grip on to. Wash them off after sanding. I also wash walls and ceiling before painting. Not everyone (even decorators!) bother

TheFlyingFauxPass I think they'll look bizarre against white if I don't do them as they're kind of a pale yellowy cream. I hate glossing too but hoping a few hours' misery will be worth it in the end!

Are that's a good point mumin! I always use magnolia on walls. No getting away with it then 😊

I sanded the gloss a bit to get a "key" as pp mentioned then painted with white eggshell rather than gloss. Much easier to work with and doesn't go yellow over time like gloss does.

Thanks! Sanded last night, going in armed with paintbrush after baby's bedtime tonight. Have gone for satin rather than gloss X
