Bathroom Tiles: Yay or Nay

So I usually play really safe when it comes to home decorating. Neutral and grey.

We are doing up the bathroom and I really like both these tiles but I'm not sure if they go together or will look silly. So I need opinions!

It's a small bathroom. We will have a bath, shower over bath, sink and toilet. And about 3 sq m of tiles.

Hmm I think you'd have to see them next to each other in the flesh to see if they go. The teals could be quite different or they could match, hard to tell. And one is shiny and one matt. Also... I wonder if all together it might be a bit much?

I think I would probably use those floor tiles on the floor, and maybe as a splashback behind the sink, then plain matt white tiles round the bath/shower. Then any remaining bits of wall I would paint teal - that way you can get a good colour match with the floor tiles, and if you don't like it after a while it's easy to change.

Thanks mini. I do have samples but still am not sure which might indicate I should go with something else. I think the teal matches but it might just be too busy and colourful! I agree either the floor ones or the wall ones with something more Neutral. Also gives option of using paint to add colour?

Too much together. The floor tiles are lovely - what about plain white on the walls with a row of the teal at dado height? If the house is Victorian or Edwardian, that could look good.

I would do the same. Love the tiles. I have white tiles with a border of tiles four square colours repeated. It looks great. The White reflects light in a small room. Alternatively a feature wall? Ask the advice in the shop as I found them quite helpful a few years ago when I was tiling a friend's kitchen. You might find one of the tilers has used them before. Or if you are getting someone else show them the tiles and asked their advice. Tilers are often able to visualise the full look.
I love the tiles but it might be too much and be overpowering. Perhaps you could buy a box and lay them out for a few days in another room. I think Topps will exchange. Are you thinking of tiling the whole room or behind bath/shower and lower at basin toilet height as that would mean you could paint white or the pale grey to off set the impact.

So took on board all your advice and have gone for this floor tile (same pattern, different colours) and the diamante tile in pastel blue.

May get paint the teal colour for the bedroom 😃

We will have one wall painted. Any suggestions on colour? Should we match to the wall tiles or go a couple of shades darker?

Can you post a photo of the floor tiles you have chosen as they are different?

In a small room I'd go for relatively large tiles. Makes the room appear more spacious, and you have less grout on show (good for cleaning).

I feel for you though. When I did my (small) bathroom renovation, I was contemplating over 30 different tiles (this is walls only), and I had samples for them all! In the end I went for a good sized, neutral tile. This was years ago, and I still love it.

I have linoleum on the floor (the genuine stuff, not vinyl), in a gorgeous Mediterranean blue/green. It is a very durable natural product and not as cold underfoot as tiles.

My fella is a tiler. He would always say go for lager tiles in a small place. If you want detail then a splash back area would be good. You could spend a lot on those.... The ones at the penthouse in the Heron were 50p per 5cm X 5cm mother of pearl tiles. Amazing and you would only need a few xxxxx
