which curtains?

Hi,

Decorating a small 'snug' sitting room. It's about 2.5m by 3m with no fire place / feature.

We currently have this sofa (pic) but have it accessorised with a variety of yellow & soft grey cushions. Cushions can be replaced but would like to keep sofa.

Any suggestions on curtains? Would it be too much purple if we go with purple curtains? What colour would you pair with the sofa?

I've attached some pics of fabrics I'm drawn to but not sure if they'll be too much in a small room.

I would go with plain grey personally, I'm not keen on printed curtains!

We have a lot of plain grey, it's definitely my comfort zone our main open-plan living area has plain grey sofas & our bedroom is painted dove grey with dark grey plain curtains. Fancied making this room more of a statement as its a separate small room...will prob end up with grey!!

I tend to stick to neutrals because they are safer but I admire other people's colour schemes more than any neutral and for a small den type room, I'd go with colour.

The sofa is quite a statement colour so I don't think I'd put more purple into the room. What colour are your walls?

The walls are white and will probably stay that colour, or maybe a very very soft grey. The sofa is less busy than the picture as it's got a classic style plain back rather than the scatter cushion style.

Thinking something more like this might be better though. Less likely to get sick of it!

I like the floral pattern (the first one!) but just a word of warning. I was brave (for me!) when we decorated our lounge a couple of years ago and went for lovely (but busy) floral curtains in neutrals with a yellow accent. Quite dull decor otherwise (pale grey walls, wooden furniture and floors, beige sofas).

I love love love the curtains when they are open (really set the room off) but they are floor length and in a big bay window. As a result, when they're closed they're quite overpowering.

I'm about to get them altered into roman blinds as I think I'll like them closed / down better than closed curtains.

So longwinded way of saying if you're going for bold patterns / colours, think about them closed as well as open - not many of the websites show you photos of closed curtains!

All of those fabrics are quite small patterns, which I think do tend to look busy.

Larger patterns do seem to look more modern. What about something like this to go with your grey and yellow cushions?

Or this is slightly less in-your-face but still has the grey/yellow.
