What finish is best on engineered oak

I'm about to have my engineered oak floorboards sanded and either oiled or varnished. There is no difference in price which ever I choose but the floor chap thought oiling them would require more upkeep. I shuddered at the thought of a clear varnish (in the same cater gory as gloss paint for me) but he said the varnishes these days can be quite Matt.

It's for the sitting/dining room (we don't use it often at the moment Xmas, dinner parties, and WFH) so isn't the highest tread floor.

Any thoughts which I should go for?
