Curtains with this wallpaper? Help!

So I have this wallpaper on one wall in my sitting room but don't know what colour curtains to go for. Any suggestions?

I wondered about grey and like grey checks/tweed. I have 3 large windows (glass is 150 high by 170 wide) and the room opens through glass doors into a large dining room with 2 Windows the same size. I think I'd need both rooms to have the same curtains for the space to work.

The fabric I liked in the same harlequin range called Sophene would have cost me £3k to get 5 full length curtains & I just can't afford that!

Ideas welcome!

Should have said - I have 3 brown sofa's, and the walls are a cream/magnolia type colour

I think you'll be fine as long as you stay away from patterns resembling those on the curtains. If you cant have the same go for contrast.Keep the theme going with color instead. Tweed sound good. Checks - too much - geometry overload. I'd go for light background with thin stripes of black. As thin as countouring lines on the wallpaper pattern. Would be nice to see the other colors of the room inegrating on the curtains - browns, magnolia; makes a smart, delicate palette together. You can also jazz it up with lime green or turquise.

Is you magnolia in the same colour group as the wallpaper? To avoid pattern overload go for simple one colour curtains that matches the brown/cream (sorry my phone is crap) of the background on the wallpaper.
Add texture with cushions and a contrasting colour with vases/accessories.
Can you show picture of the rest of the room.
Also, could you source the wanted fabric somewhere else and find someone who would do the curtains for you? Have you got a sample of the wallpaper? Use to find fabrics. Once you put the wallpaper sample near a curtain fabric you'd know.
What kind of house it is (kids/cats/high traffic/lifestyle you lead) and what style you are looking for?

Love your wallpaper and actually I love the idea of going bold with checked curtains. Dunelm mill have some very nice checks that are pretty reasonable.
Alternatively a very simple/geometric Moroccan style repeat pattern in grey or biscuit and white would work. Or just a completely plain charcoal, biscuit or brown, would work well and not compete with the wallpaper.
My top tips for cutting down costs (as it sounds like you have a lot of windows - we do too, it makes buying curtains v v pricey!): buy ready made and hem them yourself (easy with a sewing machine - if you don't have one I recommend getting one if you can find a cheap one, it will pay for itself after a few pairs of curtains!); OR get blinds instead (this isn't a 'budget' option as you need to get them made professionally, BUT if you want a really special/expensive fabric it does mean far fewer metres of fabric to pay for... I think blinds would look good with your wallpaper); look for a discount warehouse place (eg Stead MacAlpine in Carlisle supply fabrics to John Lewis, if you visit their shop there are huge discounts); or try IKEA (esp for plain fabrics) as their cottons are very high quality, sometimes for as little as £4 per meter.

I'm a fan of minimalist design so I'd say go for simple and lighter colour and avoid patterns.

I think I'd go for plain but dark shade to match the wallpaper.

Our livingroom & dining room is linked like yours & our livingroom is grey with dark plum patterned curtains & our dining room has the same material but it's a blind & the walls are dark plum to match the blind. The rooms look connected but still different. Could be an idea to define the space.
