Whole House One Colour?

I am buying a house with DP which is quite dated throughout. We have got plans to create an extension which would probably affect most of the rooms downstairs and might not happen for a few years. In the meantime the plan was to paint the whole house white, but now I am scared that it will be cold and am toying with the idea of painting the whole house light grey. Not shades of grey, all exactly the same shade which I am sure will look subtly different in different lights and I was hoping to accent with different colours in different rooms. Is this a crazy idea? Google suggests that this is not the done thing but not sure if we are capable of choosing one colour let alone several!

I would have said the same. Until we bought our house. It's white throughout and everyone comments how clean it looks.

Its an off white (bucket) and the rest I'd a very subtle grey. To be honest they are really similar.

We painted one wall in the open plan a dark charcoal grey as we have copper lighting and reclaimed brick. A bright rug and cushions have cheered it up.

Timeless by dulux is always recommended on here if you want to try it.

Our house is done throughout in white with light grey woodwork and everyone comments on how nice the decor is. The rooms all look different as we have different soft furnishings etc.

Go for all white, it will look clean and airy and different depending on accessories.

I think as long as you don't follow this example, one colour throughout works really quite well

Our full flat is off white with one coloured wall in the living room and bedrooms. I love it, and much easier to maintain if the walls are a bit dirty because 1 tin of paint is more than enough

My house is white throughout (unlike any other house I ever owned) and I love it, I can change the look of a room just by switching the accessories and it looks bright and clean even though my housekeeping is distinctly average. I also try to pick furniture that is similar in wood tone, so any item can go in any room when I do decide to move things round.

Our new build was entirely white with cream flooring throughout.

We lived with it for a year or so before I had a manic episode and painted the hallway, kitchen and bathroom in two days. The rest is still white though and I love it.

My mums house is natural calico throughout, including ceilings, which somehow makes the ceilings look higher.

I think the pictures of Timeless I have seen are a bit creamy but worth a tester pot of that and natural calico once we are actually in.

We love grey but I think perhaps grey woodwork might work.

The problem is that the whole house (1960's - so not exactly ancient) is mismatched, skirting board in some rooms none in others, same for picture rails, about 3 different types of door, different carpets everywhere etc so perhaps statement woodwork will draw attention to the inconsistencies.

So many decisions.

Sorry involve. Not a helpful post but I thought it would be a laugh. If it helps, my whole house is white and the renovations I do for my business generally are cohesive throughout the same level. At the moment it is 50 shades of grey in the current projects. I agree with the PP about painting the ceilings the same colour particularly if cream / pale colours. It is much more appealing to the eye. Good luck!

Our whole house is painted in Timeless and it's ever so slightly different in each room. Front facing is a soft white, back of house (more South) is creamier but not a cream cream. If that makes sense.

I did it initially because I couldn't decide so thought it'd do until I did but now I love it. It makes everywhere look so bright and clean without being harsh or cold.

We have one room in Farrow and Ball All white but I prefer the Timeless. F&B marks very easily.

We have painted our whole house in Dulux Timeless which is a warm creamy white. Woodwork is satin white. Entire house has same ceramic tiled neutral flooring (even stairs) and same white horizontal wooden blinds throughout. Gives an uncluttered minimal calm feel. Personality can be injected into every room with the contents .

I think I will definitely tester pot timeless although my boyfriend is against anything that isn't white white or grey grey.

Actually the house two door down and 50k more was painted the same colour throughout sky blue but that is way too much colour for DP

I never thought of doing the ceilings the same as the walls I wonder if that would work if we went for the crazy choice of grey grey instead of the very safe white white.

The whole thing is pretty daunting we have only ever painted one room and we didn't do the ceiling or skirting and we now need to paint a whole house.

I'm not sure where you live but I am in Ireland. We have enough grey outdoors ( weather wise) so I think white or off white is nicer to paint the whole house.
Duluth Jasmine White is a warm off white.
Accessories can change the look of a room cheaply.
My sil has put grey throughout the downstairs of her new house, from pale to a deeper tone. I don't like it. It's fashionable but I think it's quite gloomy.

I think go for it white pure white op, especially if you have the issue of different woodwork / skirtings.

I think it would be fresh and clean and you can accessorize it as much as you like. Retro telephone in a funky colour, yellow sidelamps or whatever is your taste.

I want to paint our entire home the same colour as my living room/kitchen
It's very pale blue (little greene paint starlings egg) and I totally love it..thinking of doing the hall stairs landing and our bedroom in the same.

My whole flat is bloody magnolia (rented)... When i viewed it i thought it looked a bit cold, but tbh once i got my stuff in it looks really nice. Very clean and fresh (and easy to touch up if needed). Also goes with everything.

I'd do it all white, but add feature walls of wallpaper to personalise each room as and when you can afford it.

We painted the flat recently to rent it out & changed it from white to Timeless & There isn't much of a difference. Just softer & warmer.

Dh is in the middle of doing exactly this! Now onto the hall and landing. It looks much better already!

We have all white except the sitting room (which I'm desperate to change, it's a duck egg blue which is nice enough I suppose) and our bedroom (which is elephant's breath and gorgeous). I like having our bedroom different, we did it when I was pregnant the second time and we wanted our bedroom to feel like a nice adult space which it does. With lots of kids (we have 3) the rest of the house has a lot of colourful toys accessories strewn about.

I dream of a house with the same grey throughout. Although I was thinking king that it could be good to start with white as it might help you get a better feel of what kind of light the room has, iykwim?

Completely agree with Holly re the grey thing.
You say you're worried about all white looking cold OP, but I think the grey would look even more cold, with the added bonus of being a bit depressing.
