Help please! What colour to paint the kitchen/diner?

Unchangeable bits - cream cabinets, grey/black worktops, grey slate floor, black table. Various mismatching wooden chairs / wall cabinets etc. Walls are currently white and Imperial Gold (a lovely wet sand colour) but need updating after 8 years.

What colour to go for? Husband is not adventurous but I really fancy teal, or red, or something that goes ZING against the dark grey / nearly black of floor and worktop. I like doing 2/3 of walls white or cream, then the other 1/3 something else. Kitchen/diner is large, windows on 3 sides so it is a bright room.

Help me O Mumsnetters! There's too much choice in the paint catalogues.

Your kitchen sounds almost identical to ours. We painted the wall behind the hob in bright red, letterbox red really. I love it and always get compliments.

Sounds lovely..I would say 3 walls cream and one either a deep red or a dark purple/aubergine? Or Maybe instead of the cream go for a really light grey? Looks really modern in a kitchen, that's what I have grey and red.

Do we all have identikit kitchen dinners?
Our table is pine but the rest fits. We went for blutack blue, it picks up the colours in the work tops. Several people asked if we had had the kitchen refitted, we had just bought and used one tin of paint.

You could indeed paint it whilst he was out.
Eventually he will give in and trust you.

I love lime in kitchens especially against black/dark grey.

I hope nobody recognises this ... Am thinking a strong quite dark blue, or a mid green like Flagon or a sagey colour ... Aargh! Maybe sage would be best.

Flagon is very tame, bowling green is better

This one is crown but I think it has been discontinued, will look for similar

Thank you, that's not in the fairly recent catalogue I have, so maybe it's gone now.

Google "green kitchen walls" there are some nice looks, DH is bound to be won over.

I had dulux overtly olive in a similarly coloured kitchen (wood table though)

Will put that on my list, that is nice.
