Piece of furniture that won't fit

Just bought this lovely storage bench to tidy away the shoes in the hallway of our new house (desperately needed). Only thing is there is a radiator right smack bang in the middle of the wall where this storage bench is meant to be which means that rather than sitting snug against the wall there is a 5.5" gap. Now, obviously I knew the radiator was there (!) but in my head I thought this thing would look OK in front of it, it's only now in reality I'm very disappointed.

I really don't want to return it as I think it's lovely and if it wasn't for the god damn radiator it would sit perfectly. Besides which I don't think we'll get anything which fits in the smaller gap to the side of the radiator. The storage bench won't go anywhere else in our hallway. I've thought of sawing a piece out the back so that it fits around the radiator but couldn't do that because of the drawers. Removing the radiator seems a bit drastic for a piece of furniture? And I don't know if we're allowed as it's a shared ownership house.

I've probably ruled out all possible suggestions in this post! But would welcome any more Smile

Could you move the radiator up the wall so that it's above the bench?

Could the radiator be turned sideways, so it runs parallel and above the bench?

Radiator cover that is as wide as the bench?

Radiator cover sounds a great idea, then you get a little shelf on top too
