New kitchen - colour advice

Hi all. I am currently deliberating between have strong colours on the wall and neutral colour units OR strong colour units and neutral colour walls.

My thinking is that it's easier to repaint walls if we were to sell at some point and the new owners didn't like strong colours.

I was thinking of LG marine blue, hicks blue or F&B hague blue type colour with a pale grey/beige accent - just not sure which way round! Our new kitchen is south facing and light so could handle dark colour.

We will have an island which could be painted in a different colour too as some sort of compromise... Argh, decisions, decisions!

Any advice from people who have done this before?? Thanks

I have always gone for a neutral kitchen then put colour on blinds, walls and accessories.

I found pictures of our old house for sale recently from when it was sold 2 years ago. The house had been done up and extended but the kitchen was the same one we had put in 12 years before that and had stood the test of time well.

So as per PP I've always gone for a neutral kitchen given how easily colour dates.

I figure I can add variation with stainless steel appliances, wall colour/pictures and vary it. Current kitchen picture attached.

However the fashion right now is for quite dark (grey/dark blue) units.

Personally I really like them - but I would worry it would look very 2016.

That said, if you are having painted units then there is nothing stopping you from repainting in the future and TBH I'd be tempted by a strong colour.

However if you are going for units you can't change the colour of I'd be more cautious.

I love F&B Hague Blue btw :-)

Your kitchen looks lovely eats, can I ask what colour your units are? I love the paler wall units you have.

As we're getting ours from DIY kitchens it would be possible to re-paint them further down the line so I'm currently veering towards blue cabinets with a neutral island. Eek!

It's a Farrow and Ball Colour on the units - Clunch I think it's called.

I prefer white color for the kitchen. White color is the most popular color for a kitchen. Most of people can use the white color in their kitchen.

We have Stiffkey blue from F&B on three walls, with the wall with the most wall cupboards/shelves on it in white, which works really well. The floor is a slate coloured large tile and the units, island and table are warm natural wood - hand built and very expensive, installed by the previous owners, and we didn't have the heart to take it out! It all works together beautifully though. I would say if you are going for dark walls you really have to think about lighting - we have halogen spotlights, downlighting below all the units, and in the extractor hood above the island, as well as a large light fitting above the dining table and shelf lights in the island itself - and it can still be quite dark - very effective though. It's a north facing room however so darker anyway.

Have you thought about strong colour on tiles - can be re-tiled in future and different option?

I have black slate tiles with light units (maple) and pale green (dulux willow) walls. Silver and black hood and accessories. I think a mixture of dark and light works well in kitchens.
