Can I put a sofa in a bay window?

Just that really, we are redecorating and changing furniture in our living room.
At the moment we have a 2 1/2 seat sofa and 2 armchairs which look awful. I had planned a straight swap as its not easy to move furniture due to all the doors, but we are starting to struggle for seating and DH (not usually known for interior design) suggested larger sofa on main wall plus 2 seat sofa in the bay. What do you think??

You absolutely can. If your windows are old it could be a bit chilly though, make sure you've got some nice thick curtains or shutters to keep the cold out in winter.

Yes !! It will look fabSmile

Brilliant! Grin Thank you both. Windows are quite new so should be warm enough.

I'm just jealous of your bay window!

Ilovewillow · 03/07/2016 23:11

Absolutely, we tried but the existing sofa is too big!

3boys3dogshelp · 03/07/2016 23:24

How big is too big?? I'm useless at this kind of thing....

Maybe a 160cm two seater in the bay? Have you measured?

CodewordRochambeau · 03/07/2016 23:34

Absolutely - I'm not sure why you wouldn't?

PassiveAgressiveQueen · 03/07/2016 23:36

You can until, christmas, but it is a legal requirement to place your christmas tree in front bay windows

3boys3dogshelp · 03/07/2016 23:42

The straight bit inside the bay is only 155cm, but it splays out a lot to about 280cm. I'm worried that if its wider than the straight bit it will look too big, but the straight bit isn't very wide.

Won't have anywhere to move sofa to for Christmas! Shock oh no, I had forgotten about that.

Also jealous. When I first flew the nest I rented an old flat out that had the best bay window and the most beautiful view of the river. Lot of lovely memories in that flat.

Good luck with the decorating op hope it's not too stressful Wine

I've waited soooo long to decorate (7 bloody years!!) that I said I wasn't going to be stressed and just appreciate having the ability to change it. I'm ridiculously stressed already in a full on first-world-problems fashion and I haven't picked up a paint brush yet.
Loving the bay window love 😄. There's a lot that I would change about out house but I do love the bay window with it's beautiful view.

You can, but I found it considerably colder when I sat there, tan when I sat on the other side of the room.

We have a sofa in our bay window. It looks good. At Christmas the tree goes in the corner to the side of the sofa, so it can be seen from outside.

jessica132 · 04/07/2016 10:51

That's a great idea, though.

Ha ha agree! :-)

Mcchickenbb41 · 04/07/2016 14:30

I wish I had a bay window purely for a Christmas tree too Grin op have you considered a cuddle seat. I have one it's brilliant. Two can sit comfortably or one can sit with legs up !
