What to do! DH brought home THIS!!!

A terracotta coloured armchair no less. He has placed it in pride position in a large Victorian bay window. (Following a bereavement).

For reasons I won't bore you with, the armchair can't go (for sometime anyway). It had been recently re-upholstered so he's not prepared to do that either.

On the positive side we will re-decorate before putting oak flooring throughout the ground floor. This is my opportunity to pare down the ugliness of it all. I really need some advice on how to make this all work. We have a grey marble fireplace, oak floor, eau de nil sofas and the terracotta chair. Help please!!! What can I put on the walls and other accents to make this work! Thanks

Cushions? A pretty throw? You have my sympathy it sounds ghastly

Thanks for the empathy. DH is not particularly visual so it'd probably stay forever!. I think one of the children might like it in their room...though there might be some fall out from this. Stupid to be bothered by it - but it has really changed the look of the room!

Have someone drop a box of red wine on it when they visit? Set it alight?

I think I'd declare it has the "children's chair" and encourage them to use it as much as possible i.e to sit on whilst eating ice cream on the hottest day, to stand on at the table whilst painting....

You need a white throw or proper cover, you know to protect the dear old thing from ruin. You simply have to cover it up for its own good.

Ha ha at using it as a painting/wine swilling chair. I'd gladly post but feeling a bit worried that I'd upset the relatives if they see it...

I think DH thought that I terracotta wouldn't be such an eyesore with eau de nil - and he's sort of right.

But but but how to make terracotta not look 15 yrs (? ) out of date??

Some cushions for the sofa that introduces a touch of terracotta? These ones are discontinued but you get the idea, or maybe a piece of artwork.

We have 'nan chair' in our house which my husband asked for when his nan died. It has huge sentimental value to him so I'm happy to keep it, but he's conceded it is pretty ugly, and when we can afford it we'll get it reupholstered. We'll still call it nan chair, it just won't have 25 years of fag stains on it :) any chance you could do that?
