why such long wait for sofa?!

After 10 years 2 pukey DC a very clumsy with food DH & a move to new house it's time to finally get shut of our old sofas. Months of searching & even building a wall so we can accommodate an L shape in our lounge we finally found a gorgeous one & ordered it yesterday!! Yay!!
Then we were informed it would be a 14 week wait- WTF!! Does it really take that long? And why the hell does it take so long?
So we'll have a lovely new lounge freshly plastered painted new carpet curtains etc & we'll have to stick our old sofas back in. Talk about spoiling the look
Has anyone actually had to wait that long or do you find they come quicker than that?

I doubt they'd tell you it was 14 weeks, and risk putting you off, if it was actually going to be 6 weeks

It can take that long if they don't hold stock and everything is made to order

I think that's pretty standard otherwise they'd have huge warehouses full of sofas waiting to be bought.

That seems normal to me. They're normally made to order. Our new sofas just arrived 13 weeks after ordering.

11 weeks here from JL. Such a long time!

If it is made in France or Belgium, the factory is likely to pretty much shut down in August, adding 4 weeks to the lead time.

I have recently bought a chaise longue which is made in Kingston upon Hull. My first contact with the manufacturer, to order swatches was 31 May. It will be delivered on 25 June.

I have also recently ordered from Sofa.com. I'm not sure where they manufacture, but from order to delivery took one month, almost to the day.

It also depends on who you've bought from and how they manufacture - smaller company & made to order, could be lots of orders ahead of you, plus they may not make up standard shells in advance which means everything has to be put together from scratch. Lots more variables, but 14 weeks is not unusual from some suppliers....

Lots are made in Italy which does shut down in August so that often extends the lead time

they're made to order , but I'm guessing it doesn't take 10 weeks to make one

Hi OP you could try sofa.com they usually have in stock the most popular model, which is the bluebell covered in the house linen fabric, we had ours within the week, obviously might not be to your taste, might be worth a look.
