re painting over satin emulsion

As the title suggests we are finally getting around to redecorating our living room - the previous owners painted it in cream satin paint and in places it is flaking off the wall and I don't like the shiny look
Is there anything we need to do to prep the walls or can we just paint over with Matt emulsion?
I've never dealt with satin paint before so a bit

I painted over very shiny walls with matt and it went on ok. I'd just try a bit.

We have your issue op. We're painting with Matt emulsion. I'm sanding walls down before painting to even them out.

It's taking 3+ coats to get a really good finish.

It won't be satin.... No such thing as satin emulsion

It will be silk or mid sheen

You'll need to sand. That's the downside of silk

Clean with sugar soap beforehand
