Shattered Joules Bed Dreams, Inspiration Needed

DP and I have just bought our first house: a little cottage in a small village and DP's grandma has kindly offered to buy us a new bed. I've always imagined our bedroom to look like something from a Joules catalogue (haha) eg. deardesigner.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/Sunbird-Floral.jpg or s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/736x/98/ba/4f/98ba4fb98c632f17163b77fa57a587b5.jpg - in keeping with the house itself, but not too twee.

Yesterday, when looking at beds, DP said that the metal bed frames that feature so heavily in Joules catalogues (and my dreams), are just not comfortable and he would prefer a solid wood headboard.

I've - just about - recovered from this blow (!), but I'm struggling to envisage a bed that will 'go'. The room will be painted white, all our furniture is white and the floorboards are honey coloured. I thought maybe something like this:

What do you think? Could you show me pictures of beds that would fit with my Joules bedroom dream?

Please; I've already bought my bedding!

Probably easiest to stick to white if that's what the rest of your furniture is, but you could also pick out one of the colours from the bedding for the frame (if you do find a cheap wood one, I'd say you could find someone to spray it whatever colour you'd like)?

On the white theme though: www.andsotobed.co.uk/beds/wooden-beds/painted-finish/louis-panelled-bed.html - what's grandma's budget like?]] Wink

Or, there's this or maybe this?

Get a metal one! I love ours, and with a few pillows it's perfectly comfy. Sorry- not helpful at all Grin

I think the one you have linked to is nice, but how about a while slatted headboard? Just as comfy as solid (I know what your DP means, your head does go through the gaps in a metal one) but lighter looking and more like what you had in mind.

like this?

ScrambledSmegs · 08/06/2016 18:23

Would something like this work? Loaf Coco.

What about this m.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/spr/49058141/

originaldoozy · 08/06/2016 18:26

Although I do LOVE french style beds so like the one Scrambled has suggested.

We originally had a wooden headboard and it was very uncomfortable. Very happy since we changed it for a padded curved leather one.

So you're both wrong Wink

As a compromise, you could have the comfort of a divan base with an iron headboard.

This ?

I second the divan base with metal headboard idea. If you still can't convince him then a rattan one might be the way to go?

My be d is from love-your-home. They can make upholster in your own fabric, so you could choose a Joules fabric. There is also an underbed storage option! much cheaper than an extension!!

Someone I knew had cushions pads that tied onto the metal headboard. They were patchwork (1970s Grin )
