Am completely stuck: 10yo dd room

My dd hasn't had her bedroom decorated in 9 yrs, so it's about due.

However she has no idea what colours/style she wants and hasn't seen anything that she 'loves'. I've been all over Pinterest with no luck.

I'm at the point of leaving it for another year until she's older, but it NEEDS doing!

Would anyone have any ideas how to help my dd/me with colours/ideas? If it helps, it's a decent sized, East facing room.

Well, if she's not that bothered, why don't you just choose something neutral or otherwise inoffensive?

Or does she have a favourite colour? Careful with that though, it's why I'm currently painting a wall orange. Just the one though - the others will be grey. But beware a pre-teen with opinions.

My DDs is sunshine yellow. Some wall stickers of tulips and butterflies on the built in wardrobe. It is lovely and warm and bright and calm.

My DD is 11. Her room is painting Timeless, with a purple on the biggest wall. She's currently eyeing up a zebra print border, and accessories are teal, silver and black.

When we did dd's room at that age we painted the walls magnolia, and bought new curtains, duvet covers, lampshade and a rug. You can then buy different stuff as her tastes change, and magnolia is a good colour to paint over if she decides she wants something different.

I would suggest starting with a duvet cover that she likes and take your inspiration from there. Laura Ashley do nice ones.

We've just done DD's in green (fb Theresa's green) and it's lovely. She is younger than your DD but i can see it lasting for years. It's very calm and restful and feminine without being pink.

If she hasn't got any strong views or is finding the choice overwhelming then could you choose a few duvet covers and get her to pick one? I have boys but I narrow down the choices to what I can live with and they pick from that.

Then I pick colours out of the duvet cover to put on the walls. You don't want it to blend into the wall so you can't see the duvet so either choose a neutral colour for that wall or choose a lesser used colour in the duvet cover for that wall.

Ds2's room is currently acid green but will be repainted this summer. He is 10. I am doing chevrons on one wall. He is not good with change but he had the acid green in the last house and because he was not quite 4 when we moved here we decorated his room in this house the same for him to help with transition. I'll be glad when it is gone Grin

My dd has one wall green one pink one lilac. All from same dulux colour palette looks rewlky effective with some butterfly and flower stickers. Also lookibg at some wall murals on Amazon. You can have a world map or a huge flower or landscape. They're really good value as well

My dad is the same age and has gone for cream and gold which I was a bit doubtful of but actually it looks really good, very neutral and calm.

Another vote for white walls and a duvet cover she likes. Curtains in a plain colour to pick out a colour from the duvet cover. Then adapt in future as she decides what she wants. You can always go back and paint just one wall in a more exciting colour, easily enough.

Alice sorry I typed a response but lost it. Yes whole room but isn't v big and has two doors( landing and ensuite) but I'll try and post a pic . Funny enough we've used litres and litres of timeless over the years and the woodwork in DDs room is whimborne White which I thjnk is an almost exact match for timeless.

Paint it white and let her experiment with accessories, duvet, curtains, lampshades, rugs, throws, pictures etc.

I hate being constricted by "themes". White walls means i can completely change a room without repainting hassle.

Another vote here for white walls! Recently decorated my daughter's room with three white walls and one blue (Crown Stepping Stone). Very easy to find things to match. Looks bright and spacious :-)

So glad I found this thread (thanks OP!). I have a 10 year old daughter needing a room re-paint, and want to paint over pale blue to white, but DH thinks it will be cold (North facing but large window, very bright).

I'll try picking a duvet set first, that's a good idea.

How does white work, dirt-wise? Does it feel cold at all?
