Yellow and Grey living room

So I have talked the OH into letting us redecorate the living room. We are on a very tight budget but at the moment its so truly awful that I think we can get a huge improvement on a budget.

I am thinking light grey walls, a charcoal sofa and then yellow rug and cushions

I am struggling with what colour curtains to go fro? I don't want the room to feel too dark, its not overly big and the stairs are in the room too.

Have you looked on pinterest - lots of lovely ideas on there.
What type of yellow are you looking at? A soft lemon or bright yellow?

I am thinking a nice bright dark yellow, almost a mustard but don't think I want the curtains in that colour.

Not suggesting you paint your walls with it but farrow and ball's India yellow is a lovely shade to use as inspiration, imo.

What about a wooden blind?

Mine is also these colours. I have dark grey curtains but we don't draw them as we also have white blinds which we do use. So the room isn't dominated by the grey. Our room is quite big, we have charcoal grey wall paper on the chimney breast and a lighter grey paint on the opposite wall. The eat if the room is white. We have yellow cushions and pouffee thing and accessories. Also usually have yellow tulips or something. I love it. Phot below shows one end just after the carpet was fitted so pretty empty!

We have that colour scheme and have gone for patterned curtains, mostly greys but with yellow accents, likewise the cushions and lampshades (different fabrics but same theme). I second Pinterest - although I hold it responsible for me falling in love with a fabric that meant my curtains cost three times as much as I'd planned! (I really do love the fabric though.)

Some great ideas thanks guys. I think we will go dark curtains and then just good lighting and plenty of yellow pieces
