sofabed or airbed?

About to move from a 3 bed into a 2bed,our spare bedroom is a guest room that gets used a lot so we need a good, comfortable alternative.

Any thoughts? Should we go for fold out sofabed or one that just extends out (eg the Ikea daybed), invest in a really good topper or just get an air mattress? I'd rather sofabed option so it can be packed away - friends usually stay for a few nights but my mum and dad often stay for 2-3weeks (in this case we'd prob give them our room and we'd go on the sofabed)

Don't go air bed. They start of the night nice and full of air but come morning your ass is on the ground. Great for kids sleep overs but not adults . Sofa bed for me.

Airbeds are awful.
Always leak.
Not very comfortable
Not very stable of the two people on it are not the same weight.
Drafty being close to the floor.

Get a sofa bed.

Self inflating mats? Cheaper than a sofa bed. Away when not in use. Portable if you go away?

My parents have an Aerobed that they say is very good (I haven't slept on it though)

My experience of sofa beds is that the mattress is usually very small and often not very comfortable. There's an IKEA one that is really comfy to sleep on - no spring mechanism so you sleep on the actual sofa cushions. But not sure how comfortable that one is as an actual sofa.

Who's in the 2nd bedroom? Could you get one of those single beds that has another bed underneath that pulls out and up to make a kind of double bed for guests?

We have an Intex airbed which is really very good (i sleep in it when working shifts). Comfy, stays firm, inflates and deflates at the touch of a button. The only issue with it is that it gets cold so needs a good topper under the sheet.

The issue is DH and I are pretty tall so we'd need a decent sized sofa bed. Our DC are in the second bedroom, I would mind bunking down with them for a night or two but not for 2-3 weeks at a time.

Those fold out sofa beds always seem to have small and uncomfortable mattresses though

(Hoping in the next year or two we can convert the garage to have a third bedroom)

DH and I are 5'8" and 6'2'". We have a 3 seater sofa bed made by Relyon which we got from John Lewis 15 years ago. It wasn't, but it's plenty big enough and very comfortable. It's been used a lot in its time, and is still going strong, still comfy. Worth the £££££.

Aerobeds are good- they do a raised one which would avoid the draft issue. The normal camping type airbeds are awful though. Sofa beds are often tiny as beds- I'd struggle to share a 'double' or smaller with someone else, it would need to be king size to be comfortable for a couple for 2-3 weeks.

We've got an intex queen sized air bed that we use for camping and also as a spare bed. It was about £50, stands over 12" tall and takes a good 5 mins to blow up with an electric pump. DH's back is crackered and he sleeps well on it. It folds down into a small holdall type bag when not in use.

sofa bed (then your dm can sleep there comfortably and you don't need to give up your bed/room)

Maybe I just make an effort to find a nice looking comfortable sofa bed but if the search is fruitless just get the high up air bed

We've got the high up air bed and it's super comfy. Bit bulky and you need to think about storage space for it

I would suggest a sofabed plus a bed topper. Together it should be fine.
2-3 weeks on a dodgy matress is a looong time.
I'm relatively fine on an airbed, but that's bc DP sinks in and keeps me floating.
