One flooring throughout?

We need to change our flooring in the kitchen but not sure what to do. The same laminate runs throughout from the entrance to the back door.
My sister thinks we could do laminate in the entrance & kitchen, carpet in the living area and back to laminate in the sun room. I'm not sure if we could make the transition smooth enough and might end up looking a bit odd.
What do you think? We're not stuck on laminate by the way, just throwing ideas around. Excuse the half painted messy house!

If so I would go with tiles all the way through although it's an expensive solution.

Then break it up with a large rug in living area.

We had a rented house with large tiles all the way through and it worked quite well. Easy clean too.

Carpet next to the kitchen / dining area could get absolutely filthy. We had it when we moved in but changed pretty quickly (although ours was a fairly light colour). Could you compromise with a big rug in the living room if you want to cosy things up?

Those were my thoughts on carpet too. It'd be lovely and cosy but we've got 2 young children and a dog so I can't see it lasting.
I was thinking of tiling the kitchen and keeping the laminate in the living area for now. I'd prefer a nicer wood floor in the kitchen but I can't see how you'd get it to flow with the laminate in the living area and unfortunately we can't really afford to change the flooring in the living area just yet.

I'm shit at decorating though, I've got no taste so feel free to correct me!
