would you rent a house if there's no dishwasher space?

we are a little family with one 2 year old kid. we are now moving our home and just found a property we really like but it has a very small kitchen. there's a washing machine in the kitchen but no dishwasher. would prefer the washing machine in bathroom but there's no space there neither. we mostly cook at home and I think I'm a bit lazy to wash the dishes promptly if there was no dishwasher.

other than it's being small, the house is really beautiful and it has a very good price. what would you do? landlord is unlikely to do any installation changes... would you rent it?

errr yes...we cope fine without a dish washer. I dont see how people find dishwashers easier...loading and unloading is just as much effort in my opinion. I'd be more concerned about the lack of space for a tumble dryer...

We rented a house similar, but put the washing machine in the garage (there was already plumbing for it) - could you do anything similar? We only did it though because we knew it'd be short term.

In our current rental there was no dishwasher. We lasted about 2 months and then went out and bought one ourselves (moved freezer from under counter to the corner of the kitchen, and replaced it with dishwasher. Washing machine out in garage).

DH and I both work full time and life is busy enough without adding washing dishes. We did survive when I was temporarily off work, but it wouldn't have worked long term.

Yes I would. Without hesitation.

A washing machine is non-negotiable. A dishwasher is really not.

We have; same situation as you, one two-year-old and a small house with no dishwasher. I don't miss it at all, really. We're both pretty good about washing up as we go along so there's never a pile of dishes in the sink.
If the landlord offered to fit another appliance I'd pick a tumble drier over a dishwasher!

It depends if you care about a dishwasher or not. I would because washing up really doesn't bother me but once you're used to the convenience it might be harder. Are you looking for a home to live in forever or would it be temporary?

A dishwasher is not essential. Ours broke about a year ago and we haven't got round to replacing it yet! 4 of us live here so plenty of washing up. Dh or I just get on with it each eve.

If you are used to a dishwasher you will miss it.

We rented a flat temporarily to live in during the week as we still ha dour other house. No dishwasher. It was a real drag.

I bought a house with no dishwasher space. Washing machine is in the garage.

No brainer.. location and space far outweigh a flipping dishwasher.

TheGreenNinja the house has no garage so unfortunately can't move the washing machine.

LaurieLemons I actually don't know how long we'll stay here, it's up to dh's work.

I'll be temporarily off work until september, so I think I can spare some time and get used to washing the dishes until then :P I guess we'll take the house... ^^

A dishwasher is essential to us. We are both very lazy and hate doing the dishes so the kitchen ends up a mess. We had one rented house without and it was a nightmare.

I know we could just be less lazy but I'm up for making sure things are as easy as possible.

We've lived in lots of rentals over the years. Only once have we had a dishwasher, and it was in such bad condition that it broke down after a few months of not washing anything properly. We actually found it more of a pain than a help. Dishwashers are certainly not common in rentals.

it broke down after a few months of not washing anything properly I heard someone on the radio telling a story about his who mother had an early dishwasher, which would randomly leave the dishes unwashed. She called it the Wish Dasher. Grin.

We have just survived Christmas with no dishwasher for the first time in over 20 years. It was nowhere near as bad as expected. However, I am really looking forward to the installation of the new one tomorrow Smile. I think on balance I would prefer to have the option of having one.

It would depend on what my options were and how desperate I was. I find washing up takes ages, and now never want to be without a dishwasher, but if necessary I would make do.

However I would NEVER want to be without a washer drier or tumble drier again - is it definitely just a washing machine? Drying clothes inside can cause issues with mould. Again if I had no choice I would make do, but otherwise...

There are only three of you in the house, so you should cope fine without a dishwasher. Just wash up after every meal and you'll be fine!

We have a dishwasher but only use it when we have guests round and there are lots of things to wash up at once, but day-to-day washing up by hand really isn't a chore unless you let it build up.

In the overall scheme of things, the house's location, size, rooms and overall condition are the most important considerations.
