Opinion on tripod lamps?

Am thinking of getting one for the living room but I can't decide if it's the sort of thing that will date very quickly; any thoughts?

I think they're already a bit passé interiors trends wise but if you like them, buy one. Do you really care about what is at the cutting edge ? If you do, you'll be changing your interiors every few months. Who has the time or inclination for that? Buy what you love.

Yes you're right Natty I shouldn't really think too much about it, off to do some online shopping
