What colour carpet would you choose for a whole house?

Or even just upstairs and stairs that we are starting with?

In our last house, a new build ( but that was 1992) we had a good quality green carpet that I loved- but is green considered dated now?

We have 2 bedrooms being overhauled with fitted wardrobes in next few months so I need to get choosing- any ideas/inspiration gratefully received.

My house has "caramel" all the way through. It's like a dark cream/light beige.
Tbh I wish I had gone a bit darker as it does show the dirt quite a bit, but would have probably gone along the same lines - ie neutral.

We're going for a neutral beige sort of color in a loop pile for our renovation. It'll be on the stairs, landing and all bedrooms. Downstairs we'll have tiles through most but similar or the same carpet in the living room.

We've just fitted new carpet upstairs, we've chosen a mid greige throughout. It's neutral enough to go with whatever decor you choose for each room. Not too dark or light to show every bit of fluff. We like our safe neutrals though. What colours are you thinking of in the rooms you are doing?

Thanks, looks like a beige variety is the way to go.
We are in a converted bungalow so walls run into ceilings so need to be one colour, and we were thinking a neutral tan colour maybe. One room is a sort of dark magnolia and the other a very pale lilac (DDs old room) and they have very dated old broken built in wardrobes which needed replacing 10 years ago but we had no money. Built in is essential due to sloping roof etc. Wardrobes will be gloss white doors so rooms can be a blank canvas. Bed in spare room has a wooden frame and we will replace ours- hence way too much choice now :)

We may stick with green, but no one we know has had a green carpet fitted for ages. It would be fine just upstairs but not so sure about lounge too now if we do manage to go mad and do that too. Have had green for so long (current bedroom is threadbare green) that needed some new ideas.
I didn't want white wardrobes originally but have come round having seen them installed in a few places.

For what it's worth and I don't know if resale is a consideration, but I would be fairly put off by green carpet if buying. I mean, it wouldn't stop me buying, but I would question the last time anything had been done and start to mentally calculate costs for a complete overhaul.

Sorry, I know that's not very nice, but, particularly on rightmove photos these things can look very dated.

Our whole house is in a time warp but we have finally got some funds to start tackling it which is very exciting but also daunting. Took us ages to agree on bedrooms but as carpet doesn't meet the walls anymore, and stair carpet very threadbare it won!

We've got a grey with a hint of green, it's very subtle. A heather mix so it doesn't show every speck of dust. From John Lewis, they have great samples: grey with a hint of blue, hint of beige, hint of green etc.

From my perspective you can't put green carpet with lilac.

Look at grey that would work with both colours

We bought a good quality tufted wool carpet in 'sand'. Which is basically a beige background but with lots of different colours running through it including tufts of black. It really works and is pretty sympathetic to showing dirt etc. We also bought a Bissell spot cleaning carpet vac so any spills (toddler) get cleaned up immediately and again it seems to have coped really well -we've been here three years now. I'll google and see if I can find the brand name just for info - we've just looked it up and it was Tomkinson Twist deluxe ☺️

I would definitely go for something in the beige to caramel, or grey spectrum.

Reason being they are relatively neutral and will go with a wide range of colours. So if you fancy a bit of a change you only have to fork out for paint.

We've got a sort of sandy coloured carpet and our lounge had a lot of dark red. It is now entirely a yellowy cream colour. Carpet works fab with both.

Sorry, The lilac is going, DD left home so her room is now a spare room. Neutral walls coming soon.

I want to look a John Lewis but DH thinks they are overpriced on fitting etc. Good place to look for ideas though. A friend has recommended a local guy for carpets but I need some idea of colour before calling him so will hit some shops later on.

We bought it from an online company for an amazing price. They cut to the size of the rooms and sent each roll out marked up so our carpet fitter could just get on with fitting and didn't have to cut a massive roll up (and then charge us for doing so).

I'd also recommend cloud9 underlay which we bought separately off eBay. We got 11mm which is the highest I think but there are different thicknesses. It's worth getting good underlay though as it enhances the look of the carpet and also gets it more longevity.

Green carpet - if it's that pale green it reminds me of nursing homes and a rental flat in the mid 1990s which had previously been lived in by an elderly person. Definitely go for something more neutral.

Op I have been recommended by a friend to also avoid John Lewis for that exact reason.

I'd go for a neutral colour of beige/light brown. Goes with creams, whites, light blues.
