Curtain help? (With photo)

Help me! This window and curtains were inherited when we bought the house this summer. The curtains are floor length but completely block the radiator, this is them folded up on the window sill. I need either shorter curtains or I think maybe keep these and keep them open and add sill length blinds if some sort? I don't know. Help!!

If you like the curtains or just don't want to buy more, why don't you shorten them. If you don't sew it is easy enough with wonderweb and an Iron.

Where would I hem them to? The bottom of the sill?

I forgot about wonder web and was thinking I'd need to borrow a sewing machine to shorten these.

They look fine but daft blocking radiator. They need to be longer than window sill really. Couple of inches. Are they lined? If so, don't attach lining to curtain when you shorten them or they won't sit right. Lining should be slightly shorter than curtain.

Don't forget to add a couple of inches for the hem before you cut them.

Looking at how they hang, I think they need to hang to the sill, but not below and will be fine. The room will be lighter too without all that dark fabric obscuring the radiator and the wall.

As long as they don't sit on top the sill thwy should be fine. Ideally you shouldn't be able to see the sill when curtains are closed.

The one thing I would reccomend is buying proper fabric scissors if you don't have any. They don't need to be expensive ones. Mine were about £6.

I just put them in front. I hate sill-length curtains so heat loss is the lesser of two evils

a light colored blind wd give you a far neater look. If you decide to shorten , do both of them .
