Is real proper oak furniture a lot of maintenance? Moving house and want proper good furniture instead of cheap veneer but someone told me that real wood is a pain.

No - occasional wax polishing will keep it in good nick.

Just thought of something which I do automatically - use coasters under mugs and glasses if you get real wood tables. Placemats or a table protector for a dining table and you might want to put little felt blobs on the underside of anything that might scratch the wood such as ornaments, ceramics, etc. If it isn't wood veneer, you can always sand away a bad scratch or gouge.

Nope we've got loads of it and it's fab.
But don't buy from Oak Furniture Land - we tried to but 3 times they delivered a box of broken tables, they took forever to refund us and their customer service was truly shite. Real shame as we liked other stuff from them but decided it was to stressful to try to do it again.

No, just a dust and polish and determined use of coasters, as applicable.

Oak Furniture Land have been fine for us, but if their customer service is crap they may need to be avoided. Not such a bad thing as some of their stuff is a little less than thick, solid feeling - we went round just this morning and the wardrobes felt really thin!

Thanks for the advice. We had seen a nice dining table in oak furniture land we were deliberating over.
Which branch was it you had trouble with wonky?

It wasn't the branch, all there customer service and after orders support is dealt with by a central phone line and it was a bugger to deal with. I googled it afterwards and loads of people have had problems with them. It pissed me off that they held on to our money for so long and never apologised despite me having to take 3 days off work to wait in for deliveries that each time brought basically a pile of expensive fire wood.
