Roman Blind advice

Our kitchen is north facing and I want to keep it as light as possible. I want to fit a roman blind on the outside of the window and higher than the actual window so that I lose as little light as possible.

As I want the blind more as a window dressing than to actually use for privacy does the blind need to be the full drop?

I think stripes are fine personally - as long as the blind is well made!

Only niggle with mine is they (like most blinds now) have child safety chains which pop apart far too easily. As our blinds aren't somewhere a kid is going to be climbing I gave up and glued them!

Drop is 1.50 including the extra above the window.

Mine look quite similar to the second photo you posted (though it doesn't obscure the window).

I also like the linen-with-a-contrasting-strip look. I would have thought stripes shoud be fine if you are getting them professionally made.

Thanks, I think I'll just order the stripey one I liked, in the full drop and fit it 15 - 20 cm above the window. Hopefully it will look ok!

Re child safety, they are fitted with break away connectors and p clips. My dds never climb up on the benches anyway.

Nice. Enjoy!

Just bear in mind most fabrics come in 140cm width so at 165cm you will probably have joins in the width of fabric. I have made several roman blinds for myself and hung them outside the recess, it doesn't look strange as you can't see where the top of the actual window starts anyway as it is covered. I, too, like to let in as much light as possible during the day. Hope this helps.

Thanks Sparkly, I hadn't thought about the width, hopefully any joins won't be as noticeable with the stripes. Good to know you think the blind fitted outside and above the window looks ok, there were a few negative comments, suppose it's personal taste.
