kitchen window - we are overlooked - how to gain some privacy?

The house we will be moving into shortly has a kitchen window which gives us direct view into opposite house living room. I'm looking for style tips on what to put up at our lichen window - I think curtains would be hideous and have ruled out a roman blind ... so wonder what other options are available? Would like to maintain a bright fresh and clean kitchen.

Can you Add a frosting to the window?

Although does it matter if kitchen is overlooked? It's not like a bathroom or bedroom

I read a blog post once where someone used a paste of cornflour and water iirc and used it to stick lace to the window for privacy (it washed off when she wanted to take it down). The lace gave privacy but still allowed light through. Maybe something like that? (You have to like the look of lace though!)

I would use a wooden blind so the slats can be angled to let in light but ensure privacy at the same time

You can get privacy or magic blinds which allow you to see out, but are one way so you can't see in. No idea how good they are or the cost, but I remember hearing about them here on MN.

Like PP frosted window film lets in a lot of light. I have it on several windows throughout the house.

You could frost part of it, ie the top or the bottom depending on where your eye level is.

For longer term you can get instant hedging and plant up the garden so you cannot see the living room.

It is best to have two people do it although I have done lots on my own.

We went for a white wooden venetian blind - allows light in and can be angled for privacy.

What about a cafe curtain? There are umpteen styles to choose from. They are the kind of thing now considered naff that I secretly like.

I like little interior shutters such as these; just had some installed due to a new, larger house being built next door and it solved my privacy problem while still letting in a lot of light. The clean look has helped the appearance of the kitchen.
