What are you doing to cosy up for the winter?

My dreams of swathes of gorgeous blankets and cushions, warm fires and glowing candles are being ruined by lego and hot wheels all over the place, small sticky sweets being saved for later in my woollen blankets and a husband who starts wheezing every time I light my Jo Malones.

Anybody else having more successful turn of the seasons?

Go onto pinterest and search hygge! So cosy looking and doesn't just mean candles! I love all that stuff but like you a million toy cars and squashed food stuffs put an end to dreams of expensive blankets well that, and no money I tell myself it's about the company not the 'look'!

Blankets, fleecy throws
candles (battery operated ones unfortunately - I have fire paranoia) and fairy lights
woolly socks
lots of soup and hot chocolate
board and card games with the dcs
film nights watching classic films with dds

Sounds cosy! I love the idea of hygge so much so I'd move to Scandinavia to get the full effect!

Goddamn it. I want some hygge too! But I'm skint and I think dh would laugh at it. I will have to save my hygge-ing til Christmas.

I know how to say hygge but how is it pronounced?
I've seen some lovely festive throws in Asda with matching cushions. Only a tenner so might treat myself.
Lots of candles, winter curtains are up, fairy lights and hot choc and baileys.
I love licking the door and getting all snug. Nice movie on the telly warming dinners etc.
Sadly the kids spend thier evenings arguing and playing bloody minecraft. Ruins the effect really!

I love the concept of hygge! We went to Amstedam recently and they have nailed it. Lots of little pubs with wooden floors and benches and candles everywhere - fell in love with it.

As soon as the evenings start getting darker, the candles come out. I have also bought some new velvet cushions in dark grey and purple and a mohair throw in a lovely shade of blue.

I spend a lot of time on Pinterest looking at Hygge. I love all those scandi winter scenes!

PantsofGold the same concept exists in Dutch, the word is 'gezelligheid'.

I love the hygge, it's part of accepting that in the North East of England we never get much of a bloody summer so may as well make the winter nice!

My multi fuel stove helps a lot with the hyyge, going for a lot of scandi greys in the house, making my own xmas wreath, got a zen diffuser for essential oils.

I need to sort out some nice bedding and cushions next.

I am fully onboard with the hygge. It's pretty much what I try (and fail) to achieve every winter. Being cosy chases away the blues and makes dark evenings more palatable.

No candles, though. I'm paranoid that I'll fall asleep and they'll start a fire. I do have some quite convincing fake LED ones. Don't tell the Danes!!

I love a bit of hygge. My whole house is painted in dark, sludgy tones so is very atmospheric in the darker months. I have plonked reindeer skins over my sofas, doubled up on my many cushions and put scented candles everywhere. I have lamps that give amber pools of light. Cannot see me leaving the house until spring.

Dame where did you find lamps from which glow amber? Sounds good!

I am starting to realise that my big windows and stark white blinds are ruining any chance I might have at Hygge. Maybe I need more sheepskins.

Extra large fleece blanket/throw bought (meant to be for over the sofa but I love wrapping myself in it!)
Medium sized soft throw in toning colour
Woodburner on
Cosy soft fluffy socks
Hot chocolate
Low light lamps
Fairy lights (bit of wooden/twiggy shit around too)
and me on the sofa with my kindle, reading - love this time of year

I have some lovely battery operated tealights from The White Company. They are v realistic.

From a norwegian born and bred (about to move), tealights are an essential part of hygge, also a fireplace if you have it.
The light and shine you get from live candles makes a huge difference.
Other then that, just think of a comfy sofa, slightly dimmed lights, hot cuppa, soft blankets and much is already set.

Christmas with its fairylights/christmaslights brings hygge to a new level

Ps those of you afraid of live candles, start off with tealights as they are pretty safe.
