Have you seen a really lovely standard lamp?

We have no central light in our living room, it was designed to be lit by lots of lamps.
I think I need a floor lamp but I've never seen one I like. Any ideas where to look?

I have been looking for ages dh is refusing to look any more and wants to buy wallflower and table lamp instead. I tried Next BHS etc seems that all the local specialist lighting shops have gone.

When I was stuck on this I ended up buying a really lovely Edwardian mahogany one for not much more cost than all those I thought looked flimsy in the shops.

Very traditional though, maybe not what you want but I would look at used ones (eBay maybe to begin with?).

It seems I'm not alone in my quest. So many of them are wobbly/stainless steel/novelty.
I've looked on ebay without any luck.
If I find one I'll post, will you do same lightening?

I have a lovely one from IKEA. They have quite a good range and often let you chop and change the base and shade. Decent prices too

We have a beautiful wrought iron standard lamp, bought from an auction. It was billed as Edwardian - I don't actually know, I just know it's unusual, beautiful and very sturdy, so has never been knocked over despite 3 toddlers' best efforts! If you search for auction houses in your area, they usually put all their lots for the next sale online, so you can browse on the computer before you make the effort to go and see an item in person.

I have got some lovely lights (not standard lamps though) from Jim Lawrence in the past.

They are nice put, he used to be a farrier and blacksmith, I know someone who trained with him.

Not sure where everything is made these days, probably not in his workshop .

I live in an old cottage, have got lots of their wall lights - not to expensive when you consider what a flimsy one costs and I will take them all with me when I move.
