I'm in the process of redecorating my children's rooms and it's ds2's turn.
He's 9 (y5) and I think he would choose a bright colour scheme which is fine but I need something that would look "old enough" for the first few years of secondary too. Google images seem to suggest blue as a popular colour but I'm a bit meh about blue for boys as a cliche. His sister's room is Tiffany (jeweller's) blue so will it look too similar?

The room is large with white built in wardrobes, plenty of light, black metal bed and white furniture (bookcase and drawers). Current flooring is royal blue carpet which will be replaced in a couple of years.

I would prefer to paint (never wallpapered before). He likes his army figures, computer games like Minecraft and Lego. Budget is Dulux rather than Farrow and Ball so Dulux colour names would be really appreciated.
Thanks in advance

I have a 10 mo baby girl so don't have any first hand experience, but I did see a lovely room in a show house once that looked geared towards a young boy.

It had a huge map of the world on one wall (in the usual 'map' type colours, blue, green and sandy yellow) and the walls picked out those colours. I think it was a kind of 'explorer/Indiana Jones' type theme. I remember thinking it looked really good... And I liked the idea of the map.

Maybe a green shade?

And I think IKEA sell map of world posters....

I tend to pick a duvet cover first, then pick out colours from that.

I am not afraid of colour, Ds2 had a navy blue duvet cover with a lime green dinosaur on it and I painted the room nuclear acid green Grin think it was Dulux kiwi burst 4?

I am just about to do Ds2's again, he is also 9 and year 5. Again I have a bright colourful striped duvet cover so am picking colours out of that. One a as a base colour then I'll be striping a wall with the other colours.

I just go to B&Q with the duvet cover/pillow case and match it by eye. I have tried the colour matching system but it doesn't do well on fabric, only solid items so I eye it.

Get a tester pot, paint white A4 paper x at least 4 sheets and stick it on all 4 walls especially near to corners. That way you can see how it looks in different light.

Pinterest has loads of boy's bedroom ideas, just put "teen" into your search or google for that matter.

Hi agree with you on the not wanting to just go blue for my sons room - i have done one in green and one in a deep red that I saw on housetohome

for the green room I iused Dulux willow tree but now wish I had gone for a more fun bolder green but it looks lovely

We have Chartreuse - a bright lime/kiwi colour. Only on one wall though!

My 9yos bedroom is painted in a mixture of bright orange (Dulux Tangerine Twist), Dulux Luscious like, and Natural Cailico - 2 opposing walls in the bright colours, the other 2 in the creamy one. I think it looks great!

Luscious Lime

Thank you for replying everyone. I'd totally forgotten to come back to this Blush

Think he'll love Vintage Chartreuse, Luscious Kiwi.

RingDownRingUp- that sounds like a really fun room.

ArchbishopOfBanterbury - what sort of colour do you have on the other 3 walls?
