Front door privacy

Have bought a new house, front door is dark wood and similar to this style of glass pane layout. The previous owner had an awful flowery net curtain hanging over it which despite being hideous served its function.

What do your think I should do instead? I've thought about separate venetians for the top and bottoms sections, top and bottom voiles, a door curtain even.

Im just not sure. Help.

You can get a film which would obscure the glass and turn it opaque

If the glass is clear, could you frost it with a spray?

Yeah I'd just opaque it out with some film from B&Q and then get a new door at a later date. Don't like the though of all that glass from a safety and security point of view.

Ooh I like the idea of a spray or film as it is clear glass. I feel a bit uneasy people bring able to see straight through so this is prob the best option. Ta.

If it's cold in Winter due to all that glass, you can fit a portiere rod to the top of the door which lifts the curtain out of the way when the door is opened.

For a quick fix you could cut some tinfoil to the size of the window panes, wipe over one side of the foil with a very damp cloth, then place it, wet side to the glass, and smooth it down.
This will hold it to the glass for as long as you need. Then when you've found the permanent alternative you need, simply peel the foil from the glass, dry the window and you're good to go.

I saw this tip on another MN thread last year, tried it out in a friends bathroom whilst she was decorating, and it was brilliant.

Obviously, it does cut light out, but it depends what you need more for now - light or privacy.

If you decide to frost, I'd got for the film and not the spray. The people before use sprayed the glass in the fanlight on the door and it is all blotchy, not a good look.
