Has anyone put vinyl flooring in bedrooms?

We currently have carpet but needs replacing. I am quite allergic to practically everything dust etc and DS seems to be the same. I like the look of laminate flooring and the fact that its easy to keep clean, but I find it cold and noisy. I saw some samples of vinyl that looks like laminate but when I mentioned that it was for bedrooms the guy seemed surprised.

Would it be really naff to do this? Please tell me someone else has done it and it looks/feels/sounds great!

We have 'wood look' vinyl in our dd's bedroom and it works well for us. It has been down 6years and is still in good condition. It has a bit of give (softness) and doesn't feel cold. She has small rug by her bed. She has a medical condition which means vomit etc and we need to perform sterile medical procedures so we deliberately chose this flooring so we could clean it easily, no 'fluff' etc. It's worked well for us.
I think the floor underneath needs to be smooth, so if I remember rightly we laid a layer of plywood to ensure there were no ridges or bumps which would wear badly under the vinyl.

DM has it in her bedroom. She's happy with it, not sure I like it and some areas near to fitted cupboards look like they're 'lifting'.

I had it in the bedrooms and bathrooms of my first rental. I was there 6 years with no complaints about it. Not sure if it was expensive as LL had it fitted but it lasted me and two DCs.

I put vinyl in my Grandmothers bedroom with a thick cushioned underlay. It was expensive but made the room easy to clean. It was a wood effect look and non slip. I am redoing youngest DC bedroom and am considering vinyl again as he is asthmatic and it would be easier to keep dust free. Wood would be too noisy I think.

Oh BtW the wood look in the bedrooms was lovely but you could tell it was vinyl however the tile look in the bathrooms looked like tiles until you put your bare foot on and felt the warmth.

We have vinyl in one of DDs bedrooms, she chose it when she was about 14, she is now 26 and has left home, but the Vinyl is still going strong. We also have it in the kitchen and are considering getting it in the sitting room.

When I was a child we couldn't afford carpet so had lino everywhere and are still alive to tell the tale.

it's very easy to keep clean, and is quieter than laminate or wood. IMO it is ideal for bathrooms. The feet of furniture will dent it, and will scar it if dragged. Pads are available. You do need a flat smooth floor. 4mm ply is better underlay than hardboard and will not bubble.

A good tip: a week or two after it's been laid (it will settle) tidy the edges if necessary with a Stanleyknife, tuck them under the skirting if you can, using a metal scraper or blunt knife, and run a bead of white silicone under the skirting to seal the gap. Clean first so it sticks. It will prevent dust or spiders from coming in, or earrings from rolling down, and looks neat. If the skirtings are white it will be invisible unless you look hard.

In out last house, in the attic room we laid vinyl as wood would have been noisy. It was wood look and it looked fabulous.

Warm under foot, so easy to clean and cheap to purchase. We laid it ourselves as it so easy to fit. We put it in before the skirting went in and it was well glued.

It looked great still after 6 years when I sold the house.

In this new house, we have some in the bathroom and it the first time in 17 years I have not tiled a bathroom floor but it's so nice under the feet and it looks so cool being a geometric design.
I will go with more vinyl from now on.

We have vinyl in DS's room. The previous owners put it down, they used that room as a gym but DS has asthma and dust mite allergy so it made sense to keep it. Agree with PPs it's warm underfoot and great to keep clean.
