Painting seagrass baskets

I have inherited a tall drawer unit with 5 seagrass basket drawers that I would like to paint and put in the bathroom. What type of paint would be best to paint the seagrass? I've never attempted anything like this before. I've seen a nice teal colour but it is in either Matt or silk and I'm not sure if these types of paints would work? Would I need a specialist paint? Any ideas?

I'd look at spray paint like Plastikote and see if they have something suitable. Otherwise, water-based paint and you might have to seal it with matt varnish. You probably need to do inside and out to prevent moisture causing the seagrass to expand and cracking the paint. Seagrass can rot if kept somewhere with high moisture levels.

I would try spray paint, or maybe covering them in fabric.

Yes I agree with spray paint. Ordinary paint will clog (speaks from bitter experience).
