Get a better light bulb?

I think I'd miss a spare room. We're constantly putting people up.

Bunbaker · 30/08/2015 12:43

I wouldn't, unless you leave enough room to put a bed in there as well. How many bedrooms does your house have?

If it is 4 bedrooms and it goes down to 3 bedrooms plus a dressing room it might be more difficult to sell.

ggirl · 30/08/2015 14:56

well it's a 4 bed house , but surely if someone wants to buy it (and we aren't selling in the near future) then they just need to put bed in it , not planning to change the room just what's in i t...bit like using a bedroom as a study

Have you got room to put a sofa bed in?

Bunbaker · 30/08/2015 15:02

I would go ahead then. I was thinking along the lines that if you put fitted furniture in it and didn't leave enough room for a bed then it might be an issue when selling.

irie · 30/08/2015 15:16

Go for it! My friend has one and it's fab. Sofa bed would be good if you could fit it, but if you don't have overnight guests often then why not... I would love one. Re lighting, you could get one of those mirrors with bulbs round it?

ggirl · 30/08/2015 15:19

hmm may have room for single bed in it but ideally I want wardrobes

tbh I think I will go ahead , might as well use the room for what we need it for and worry about guests whenever

we've had double spare room for yrs cos my parents used to come and stay but they are too old to come now, other guests can have my dd's double bed and she can bunk down somewhere else...decision made !!Grin

We've done this (but we still have a spare room) and it's brilliant. Wardrobes, large mirror, place to do my hair.
The dressing room has the airing cupboard in it so if I am ironing (rare occasion) it's easy to put stuff away.
The bedroom is much clearer and I love it.

ggirl · 30/08/2015 17:04

it will allow us to have a superking size bed in our bedroom so worth it i think

Sounds fabulous! We just invested in a super kingsize bed and it's honestly so worth it!

DoloresLandingham · 31/08/2015 11:34

Sounds like it's worth doing, but do make sure that whatever you do is easily reversible when you do come to sell. A lovely house near us came on the market recently, where the owners had knocked through from the master bedroom to the one next door to create a dressing room. Very luxurious, but it was noticeable that they had to drop the price to less than comparable four-beds nearby because anyone who wanted a fourth bedroom would have to restore the internal wall.

ggirl · 31/08/2015 19:11

will def be just wardrobes etc , I'm excited now and googling superking beds

I did this with one of our spare rooms. Works very well for us. DH has the wardrobe and chest of drawers in our bedroom. I have a triple pax wardrobe, dressing table, drawers for products and hair styling things and a huge floor standing mirror. Easy to take out the drawers and table, if we ever sell, and put bed in there.

I'd recommend the pax wardrobes. Very sturdy, tons of storage options.

Get yourself a radio too. Got to have some music on whilst you get ready. Smile

insancerre · 01/09/2015 06:33

Go for it
I'm thinking of doing exactly the same with our spare room as both DC are probably going to move out soon. Then we'll have 3 spare rooms. I would like 1 as a dressing room, dh would like 1 as a gym. That still leaves 1 as a spare room
I'm thinking of putting the ironing board in so I can iron and put away straight away

Have done this and defintely don't regret it. the master bedroom is a good size but an odd shape so wardrobes would be awkwards so we made the spare room next door into a dressing room (2 walls of sliding door ikea wardrobes and dressing table etc). I love it because it keeps all the clothes, washing clutter out of the main bedroom. If you have another guest room then do it - I don't think it would limit buyers if they can clearly see if could be changed back to a double room.

ggirl · 01/09/2015 18:24

I'm excited now , dh wants me to do my makeup in there as well as it's currently spread all over the ensuite. Will need a fab mirror and lighting now.

We have a dressing room off of the en suit and I have a vanity trannie in the spare room. I get up early and I love being able to do my things without bothering my oh. If I could do what you're doing I would!

simplydivine05 · 11/09/2015 22:54

We did this and don't regret it. Our bedroom was fine in terms of size but it has four windows and a balcony so we would have lost a window to a wardrobe. We also have the ikea pax wardrobe system and an ikea dressing table and stool. We have kept our drawers in the bedroom as the dressing room was a single bedroom. It was sold as a bedroom/study.

I had carpenter put up shelves and rails which could be easily removed if we move. Also keep ironing board there ready for action also hair dryers. As rails are open I do keep blind down when not using to avoid sun bleaching. Love the room.
